





Cork has always played an important role in Maureillas Las-Illas Riunoguès.
In 1950, half the population was involved in the noble craft of cork production.
To pass on this know-how, a group of former cork makers set up the Musée du Liège in 1982. During your visit, you can learn about the technique of stripping a tree without injuring it, and follow the development of the cork from the 17th to the 20th century.
Finally, in a superb 1920s Catalan cellar, you'll see that the ancestral relationship between cork and wine is still very much alive, and discover how, from a piece of cork that seems so hard and brittle, it's possible to create a work of art, a garment or a handbag...
