30 minutes from Vallespir HIGH MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCE

THE SOUTHERN SLOPE OF CANIGOU

This adventure offers you a complete itinerary, blending historical heritage, high mountain hikes, and relaxation. In three days, you’ll go from the ramparts of a military fort to the rugged ridges of Canigou, before ending with a soothing bath in the thermal waters of Amélie-les-Bains.

📍 Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste

Start your journey in Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste, a fortified village with authentic charm, where Catalan influence can be felt in every street. Climb up to Fort Lagarde, a 17th-century citadel perched on the heights, built by Vauban to monitor the French-Spanish border. The access is through an impressive underground passage, and once at the top, the view over the Tech Valley and the first foothills of Canigou is breathtaking.

After this historical immersion, take the time to explore the village and taste local specialties in an inn (Vallespir charcuterie, boles de picolat…).

📍 Randonnée de Batère (1470m)  et ascension du Pic de Gallinàs

🥾 Hike : 6h – Medium to Difficult Level

Wake up early to enjoy the fresh mountain air and start the Batère hike, a trail that winds through pine forests, old mines, and grassy plateaus. As you ascend, the landscape becomes more alpine, offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the border peaks.

The goal of the day is the ascent of Pic de Gallinàs (2461m), a wild and rarely visited summit. The final climb is more technical, with rocky sections that add a touch of adrenaline. Once at the top, the view is spectacular: on one side, the Canigou massif; on the other, the Roussillon plains and the shimmering sea.

📍 Thermes d’Amélie-les-Bains

After two intense days in the mountains, it’s time for recovery! Head to Amélie-les-Bains, renowned for its thermal waters with therapeutic properties. Immerse yourself in the natural hot baths, relax in a whirlpool, or treat yourself to a massage.

Then, stroll through the town, wandering between local markets and shaded alleys, and enjoy a final meal on a terrace to conclude this experience blending nature, history, and well-being.
